You know, besides finding old books and inscriptions, it’s really enjoyable when you find out some interesting tidbits about a book. Like the book we feature here – it’s a Newbery Medal* winner! How cool is that? It won back in 1925! I wonder if Donald’s Daddy knew that when he gave it to him?
*I first learned about this award from my sister Sherry while she was getting her undergrad in library sciences, with a focus on children’s literature. [She also got a degree in elementary ed, and one in special ed, before going on to a Ph.D and a career as a school psychologist, a scholar in the field of reading assessment (among other things), a teacher of teachers, and a university department head. But I digress….] The John Newbery Medal is a literary award given by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The award is given to the author of “the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Find out more about the award here.
What are your thoughts or feelings on the inscription? Please take a moment and let us know in the comments below.
Also, if you have found some inscriptions of your own, by all means, I encourage you to click here and share them with us! I’d really like to build up a collection of them with your help!
Thanks!
