This twenty year old book by Washington Post columnist Judy Mann is about the differences between boys and girls. It’d be interesting to see how the ideas here measure up against current thinking…but not so as interesting as to merit our actually reading the book.
Of note, three girls apparently shared this book, so maybe girls are just better sharers. (Just a thought). Then again, maybe Susan, Rachel and Cate knew all they needed to know on this topic.
Hmmmm, one wonders what kind of shenanigans Lucy & Pat got up to at Sweet Apple. Perhaps though, the “Ha!” was placed in the inscription because they anticipated having an “infamous” and “wild” time, but were instead stupefied into boredom, since Sweet Apple (according to the book notes) is simply a primitive log cabin. I’m afraid one will just have to keep wondering.
We think this is a beautiful cookbook, though it’s sorta hard to use for us non-Italian speakers to use. (Some might say that any cookbooks is kinda hard for me to use.) In any event, the inscription is very gracious and, from what we could ascertain, was written by the fellow who edited the book.
American tall-tales don’t get much taller than Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As reflected in this wonderfully illustrated 1945 version to the Disney animations (as well as our memories from grade school), he’s as much a part of the fabric of Americana as mom, baseball and apple pie.
